Daniela is a second-year PhD student in the Jones Lab. She graduated from the National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) in Mexico City in 2019 with a B.S. in Biology, focusing on molecular biology and microscopy. During her undergraduate studies, Danny completed her thesis project at CINVESTAV in the laboratory of Dr. Refugio García Villegas, where she studied the TRPV4 ion channel. Before starting her graduate studies, she built a diverse research background across multiple laboratories in the UT System. She studied the role of oligodendrocytes in learning and neurofibromatosis type 1 with Dr. Alejandro López Juárez, investigated novel nanoparticle drug delivery systems for glioblastoma treatment with Dr. Sue Anne Chew, and worked with Alzheimer’s patients under Dr. Sara Suzanne Masoud. Later, as a Research Associate in Dr. Jerome Menet’s lab at Texas A&M, she standardized the CUT&Tag technique for chromatin studies to investigate how the molecular clock regulates gene expression and managed the lab’s vivarium colony. Danny began her PhD at Texas A&M in Fall 2025 and joined the Jones Lab in January 2026. She currently studies the role of the lateral habenula as a transfer node for circadian signals downstream of the central pacemaker that regulate rhythmic behaviour. Outside the lab, Danny enjoys concerts, painting, traveling, climbing, and relaxing with her cats, Apuya and Joaquina.
